Family members and friends of murder victim Valérie Leblanc held a vigil in her memory at Cégep de l'Outaouais in Gatineau on Aug. 24, 2011. I try to remain very aware of the feelings of people around me on assignment, and it's best if that awarness goes undetected, especially when photographing emotional situations. As a news photographer, I am often called to take illustrative pictures on very sad occasions. It's usually best for everyone when shooters are very low impact in these situations.
