Under the Bronson bridge

This was my first time checking out House of Paint. James Park, a friend and colleague, handles the photography for the event. Bummed that I couldn't make it to the event as a shooter under any traditional capacity, I decided that I should bring my Carleton U students there on a Saturday afternoon. It was, after all, only paces away from our classroom.

We spent 30 minutes there, and I didn't put much pressure on myself to shoot pictures, but I'd have loved to spend the day there. The crowds were rad, the dancing was impressive and the music was inspiring. B-boy culture briefly captivated me, and next year, I'm making no excuses.

Air shows.

Dan Marcotte performs arial manoeuvres with his Ultimate Biplane at the Wings Over Gatineau-Ottawa air show weekend at Gatineau Airport on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada.Air shows can be difficult to photograph journalistically. It's a situation where the potential foregrounds, middle grounds and backgrounds are very far apart. If you can't see how this might present a problem or two, then this blog isn't for you.

At least there were interesting clouds in the sky just before the rain, and the rain only started to fall the moment I drove away from the assignment.

Summer Out.

This summer I shot an assignment for Ottawa Magazine at an abandoned quarry that few people would know about. To preserve it as a nature area, the residents nearby pooled their money and purchased the property, keeping developers at bay for now. At the entrance to it, in a neighbourhood behind Montfort Hospital, a local was walking his dog. I never miss the opportunity to grab a real shot. They couldn't use it in the mag, but blogs like this one can use what they can get. Almost goodbye, summer.
