Spezza wedding
Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at 6:07PM My most recent stakeout was at the Jason Spezza/Jennifer Snell wedding downtown Ottawa. However, I wasn't originally on assignment to shoot either of them. I was watching for Dany Heatley, who, if he showed up at all, would likely be sneaking in the back door (amid controversy surrounding his demands to be traded). When it was clear that Heatley would not be attending, I was reassigned to shoot alternate angles of the newlyweds leaving the cathedral, and asked to try and follow the couple to any location where they might think of getting outdoor photos taken...anything.
Newly weds Jason Spezza and Jennifer Snell wave as they leave Ottawa's Notre Dame Cathedral in a vintage Rolls Royce after their wedding on July 25, 2009.
They pretty much fled the media and fan chaos in the front of the Cathedral, then turned around and pulled into a driveway beside the National Gallery. I parked my car illegally and ran to catch a few shots no other media would have. I used my 70-200mm from a close distance until I was asked politely to leave by the wedding planner (or someone). Not before I caught a charmingly awkward and somewhat unfortunate incident that either illustrates a less than picture perfect side of the Spezza wedding or how difficult it is to operate the trunk of a Rolls Royce... You decide.
Jason Spezza taps the window to get the attention of his new bride, Jennifer Snell, who is preoccupied with concern over their driver, who fell down while trying to open the trunk, at the side of the National Gallery where their reception was to be held after their wedding at Ottawa's Notre Dame Cathedral, July 25, 2009.
